Bondi Resort Blog

Come on into our Blog for a look at the wonderful world we've got to share! With over 240 hectares (600 acres) of wilderness woodlands surrounding the resort, just ten minutes from Algonquin Park, we feature over 400 metres (1200’) of waterfront and beach; boat rentals; summer hiking trails winding through fields and woods; 20 km. of groomed cross country ski trails and snowshoeing in winter; access to nearby snowmobile trails for sledders, and a toboggan hill for the young at heart.

It has been an Honour

'Dan, with his family, enjoying a picnic dinner at the beach on their last day at @[114386521942376:274:Bondi Village Resort] this summer -- all the kids were in the lake! So much happiness here!'It is with deep sadness we say 'good-bye' to one of our long long time Bondi Family members. Daniel (Dan) O'Neill passed away unexpectedly on August 20th at the Kingston General Hospital. Surrounded by his family, Dan succumbed to a brief and sudden illness.
We were shocked by the news. Dan was a true gentleman. He shared his life with his wife Shirley for 52 years; was the loving Dad to Kathy (Mitch Martin); Wendy (Greg Richardson), Jay (Kathy). He was the Grandpa to oneof favourite "flocks" of Bondi Kids -- Jenna, Sam, Tim, Ella, Andrew, Andrew, Jamie, Jack, Sophie and Tess. Collectively this family has been gracing us with their presence for many years -- for longer than most of the grandkids have been around in fact, and it has been an absolute pleasure to watch this family grow, and to share in Dan's delight in all of them.
We are going to miss him, his great good humour and warm genuine presence, and the sheer love and joy he always demonstrated about his family. We look forward to watching this family continue to grow, and to welcoming them home to Bondi every year.... but we'll miss you, Dan. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. It has truly been an honour to call you our friend.
Donations in his memory can be made online to the Kingston General Hospital, Cancer Care South East. http://cancercaresoutheast.ca/

Baby Blues

We have an entire flock of baby bluebirds hunting around the garden They have been very hard to capture on camera, but I did succeed in getting a few shots of them on September 6th. By now, they have started their way south for the winter, and we wish them safe passage.!

Iceberg has "Melted", but the lake is still surprisingly warm

the Iceberg has come out of the lake. The water trampoline stays in longer... Come, bounce...

Thanks Emilie

pretty much says it all, indeed. Thanks Emilie - we loved having you here.

Do You come here Often?

'do you come here often?' Pemberley and Thistle meet the doe and her twins, right at my door, enjoying some of the  windfall apples from the crabapple tree.  We enjoy seeing so much wildlife, right here on our lawns!  (and apparently we can also "lure" Pokemon here, for those who want to play Pokemon Go while watching the deer and kittens :)   )

Moon, and Tunes

Harvest moon rising on September 17, and our guests enjoying a bonfire, owls hooting and a rousing choral arrangement by the wolf pack. #oldsalts#bondivillage #northmuskoka #explorersedge

The Colour is coming, the Colour is coming...

Just because the weather has stayed warm does not mean the trees aren't changing their colours! It is connected to the length of daylight, not the temperature. Here's the link to the official Algonquin Park colour report. Don't wait -- book your autumn getaway NOW!

We still have vacancies, and our hiking trails are uncrowded, we have deer on our lawns, and wolves howling in our woods at night...   Thanksgiving is probably going to be right about peak colour -- so call us now to book your three nights of Muskoka.

Summer's Last Marathon Swim

everybody IN!!!
The last organized Marathon swim of the summer... with FIFTEEN people tackling the swim to the point and back (one km.) It was, despite being overcast, a lovely lovely morning to be out on the lake. Or in it. The water was 73 degrees F (we use a very very old traditional thermometer at the lake ) There's a lot of 'young adults' here this week -- after lunch, they are all off on a Paintball adventure! thanks everyone, all summer, who have helped make all our Marathon swims pure magic. Here's some photos from the occasion!

that means you, too, Tom :)

That's Rob, waving...

Harvest after the Rain!

Bounty! David found a puffball mushroom that sprang up after the rain. These are absolutely delicious... lightly sauteed, Megan says, with lots of butter, a touch of onion, and a splash of white wine... We're going for dinner...

Thanks for Being Part of Our Family! Here's to the Next TWENTY years!

Here is to celebrating the NEXT twenty... !!! Megan and David made a presentation to our guests, Tom, Leslie, Brynne and Blair, who have been vacationing with us for TWENTY years this summer. You truly are part of our family and we look forward to your visit every year!

Even in the Rain, We Compete

For our last cookout get-together, the heavens opened... we had a spectacular thunderstorm all afternoon, and when the thunder stopped, the rain didn't. Luckily, we have the big rec barn, and we moved the fun indoors.  No bonfire, sadly, but no way we could miss the spitting contest!
A little monsoon-like downpour couldn't dampen the cookout -- although it did postpone the Star Search and Wolf Howl to tonight... We moved into our big recreation barn and just carried on. (even if a bit damp!) Our seed spitters were keen as ever, and special kudos to the folks who stood in the rain and helped to measure the distance!

Sails in the Evening Light

Sailing away... Tom has been getting a lot of 'good wind' for sailing this week. Lovely to see the sails against the evening sky!
