Bondi Resort Blog

Come on into our Blog for a look at the wonderful world we've got to share! With over 240 hectares (600 acres) of wilderness woodlands surrounding the resort, just ten minutes from Algonquin Park, we feature over 400 metres (1200’) of waterfront and beach; boat rentals; summer hiking trails winding through fields and woods; 20 km. of groomed cross country ski trails and snowshoeing in winter; access to nearby snowmobile trails for sledders, and a toboggan hill for the young at heart.

A Thing of Beauty

Synchronized lawn mowing. A thing of beauty. Even more lovely were the swallows, dipping and swooping behind the mowers. A swallow will consume about 900 mosquitoes a day. Our barn swallows, with 6 fledglings, are therefore snapping down about 7200 mosquitoes a day. Go team!!!!  (note that with one nest in the stable, we also have two other barn swallow nests, an uncounted number of tree swallows, and at least three phoebe nests.  Mosquitoes don't stand a chance)

Makes us Smile, art like this

Carrie found this on her desk las tweek -- her kids are just a little excited to be coming home to Bondi.  And we are just as excited that you'll be here soon!

Squeegee gets Reinforcements!

Squeegee has a new friend. She's looking forward to taking our guests who are too tall for squeegee. Her name is Snowbird. We suspect she is a unicorn 🦄

Seizing the moment

On June 28, Brian had to fit lawn maintenance in between the thunder. We missed getting hit but the skies were impressive!  It seems we have had 'better' weather than much of the south of the province -- we've avoided the hail, and the flooding, but have had a lot of these storms roll past us.

spreading one's wings

No question, with so much rain this spring, it has been an excellent year for biting insects.  And for the plants (such as blueberries) and animals (such as fly-catchers) that rely on them.  Our barn swallows had a big nest this year -- with six fledglings taking to the sky this week.

One of the biggest allies in the attempt to keep the mosquitoes under control is the dragonfly.  This is a fabulous video of one emerging from its nymph stage.  We often find these empty shells attached along the side of the docks.
