Apple Pie and Autumn!

Syl and Kelly spent a week with us in early September.
They were staying in Tamarack, our 'wheelchair access cottage', with wider doors, bigger rooms, and a ramp, bur most of the time you'd find them out on the grounds, free wheeling. They enjoyed a trip along the old Railway trail in Algonquin Park, and came out at night to listen to Nancy howl to the wolves. (and one lonely cub howled back)

We were in the midst of trying to 'replant' the broken branch from the old apple tree while Syl was here. And that included picking a lot of apples just to take the weight off the remaining branches. With so many apples, the question arose 'what now?'

We tackled the problem by making apple sauce, and tucking it into the freezer for a taste of autumn on a cold winter's day. Syl, however, seized the opportunity, and crafted apple pies.

We think he should have stayed a little longer -- after all, there is a class at the local Huntsville Fall Fair for home baked goods. And these pies... they've got 'first place' written all over them!

  1. The Pies were great!! I have a few apples left and will be making applesauce this weekend.
We had a great time at the cottage, truly one of the most relaxing vacations I've ever had.
The accessibility of Tamarack was great and made it possible for us to have what I consider a true Muskoka experience. Thanks again, and say hello to the chickens for me!
