A Chilly Welcome on an April Day

He is looking a little disgruntled, our robin. No big surprise. Having just flowin in from the South, the poor bird was greeted by a vicious mid-April winter storm.

Everything this morning was covered with a thin sheet of ice. Icicles had appeared like magic on trees and eaves.

The buds on the lilac were hunkered down under an icy blanket.

And Mr. Robin? Well, completely unimpressed he was bob, bob, bobbing about in the mulched garden at the back of my house.

The bird feeders at the front of the house are crowded today as well

April is the cruellest month, it is said, and today's weather certainly supports that adage.

But take heart, little robin. Sunshine and warm weather are in the forecast.  Spring will break through... Winter simply can't keep hanging on.  But you, Mr. Robin, you CAN hang on, giving us all some cheer and happy song.  Welcome back. Even if the welcome isn't as warm as we might all have liked.

  1. I saw one yesterday in the storm. He was dismayed to say the least.
