Late to the Party
The focus around here has shifted mostly towards the waterfront. Despite some weather that was less than summery, we had enough windows of opportunity this week that our guests were at the beach every day. Kids learned to waterski. "Older" kids recaptured some rusty skills. We had a good turnout for the Marathon Point Swim. Nathan and Alex trailblazed to the top of the Lookout trail. The Disc Golf course was busy.
But the birds got a little less attention -- which they don't mind, being very busy feeding the nestlings. Mom Duck #1 came by with her four teenagers. Mom Duck #2 showed up with 9 (then 8. Now 7) little fluffy ducklings.
And up in the stable, the first pair of barn swallows have their chicks almost ready to climb out of the nest. How they fit four in there is a mystery, as they grow every day.
But arriving late to the party, last week, a second pair of barn swallows swooped in. They set up nest-keeping in the nest abandoned last summer , and Mom Swallow #2 is now sitting diligently on her eggs.
