For the third year, Bondi has welcomed the Lake of Bays Association SILENT BOAT RALLY. It's a day to celebrate how wonderful it is to be out on the lake without listening to the sound of a motor behind you. Electric boats, such as the Heather Belle, join in with canoes and kayaks. Barry had even organized to have available canoes and kayaks from Algonquin Outfitters for those who didn't have their own to bring. Donna and Sarah signed folks up. Mayor Janet Peake showed up stylishly dressed to hitch a ride in Graham and Phyllis' Heather Belle. And Mark... well this year Mark brought his Dispro, a classic disappearing propellor boat. (For aficionados of these great little boats, the Dispro Association will be at Deerhurst come early September.) Last year Mark showed up with a real birchbark canoe, another breathtakingly beautiful watercraft. Even the O.P.P. Boat put in an appearance, handing out Safe Boating books, and reminding us all that this is the "year of the card." The intrepid paddlers followed the Heather Belle out of our bay, which is more protected from the wind, and then they boldly tackled the rest of the course, stopping at five docks to pick up five cards for their "poker hand." Mary Neal, President of LOBA, thought Barry had asked her to come up to make a presentation, and was surprised to discover the presentation was to her, for a winning hand! Combined with a great bbq lunch, good friends, good fellowship, a soccer ball, frisbee golf target and a cameo appearance of Squeegee the pony (a hit with the kids, for sure!) it was a great day all round. We look forward to welcoming LOBA back to Bondi next summer. And we will do what we can do get you a less windy day!
