"SNOMAGEDDON" came and went, with the worst of the storm going well south of us. We got snow, indeed, but it was just normal winter storms up here, and life went happily forward. It meant time taken clearing roads, driveways, skating rinks, grooming ski trails, and snowmobile trails to be sure North Muskoka was ready for guests, but we're used to that.
Tim checked in for us on the state of the Algonquin Snowmobile Club. He writes:
"WOW, the 5" or so of snow we got this week turned out to be icing on the cake/trails. The trails are in great shape and the traffic is picking up. Not only sled traffic but critter traffic too. Last night and tonight at the south end of Oxtongue Lake after I made the first pass and returning back seeing lots of Deer tracks being followed by 2 sets of wolf tracks. It seems like they wait for me to go by then walk the trail. Trail 65 towards Troutspawn Lake always has wolf and moose tracks on the first pass on the return trip. Never get to see them though.
Just a bit of snowfall trivia, last year we had a total 88" of snow fall up here. This year we are at 98" so far this year. Looking at the 14 day trend there is no melting in the forecast. Maybe we will finally have a "normal" winter for a change and be sledding till at least the end of March???? March is the best time for sledding for me."

The BMD (represented by Brian and David) concur that March is Magically Marvellous for snowmobiling. Although this weekend was pretty stellar too (except for the slush on the lakes -- Know before you Go!)
There's lots of great sledding adventures just waiting for you -- and we're a fabulous place to base your stay. Especially with our super winter special, 3 bedroom cottage, 3 nights, $600.00...
Coming up next weekend the Algonquin Snowmobile Club will be hosting their second annual SLEDFEST on Feb 12 2011 from 11am - 3pm. Held at Oxtongue Lake east of Dwight, it is a celebration for Sledders! Arctic Cat will be on site show casing their new sleds, the ever popular antique sled show and shine plus a vendors market. MRBP will be on site as a vendor with their high performance snowmobile equipment. There will be test rides on new sleds.
Top it off with a CHILI DOG fresh off the BBQ along with hot and cold beverages. Don't miss the SLEDFEST, there is something for everyone.
