Today was the Traditional Tapley hike to the Lookout for Thanksgiving.
We weren't the only ones who thought it a good idea -- we met a lot of our guests out there on the trail.
The traditional trail just didn't have enough excitement for the younger set, however... this is the last photo we got of Sarah, David, Mike and Melanie before they tackled the infamous 'Descent down the Face." (it's not as daunting as it looks from the top, or at least that's their story. They did find what Mike described as a 'build your own deer' part way down: what was left from a wolf kill. That was described as "kinda cool".
Brian demonstrated how to whistle through a piece of grass stretched tightly. Everybody 'had a go.'
Sarah added to her collection of photographs. We're looking forward to seeing the results!
We checked out the various views, and yes, we were able to just pick out the Dorset Fire Tower in the far distance. The colours were lovely, very soft at that time of the day.
This is one of the things for which we are thankful -- good friends, good family, good places and absolute beauty all around. We truly live in a blessed place. It was down from the mountain top to a fabulous Thanksgiving dinner cooked by Carol, with help from David, everyone around the table for Grace before tucking into the turkey. Which puts me in mind of one of my favourite Graces...
Lord Who made the birds and fishes
Bless this food upon these dishes
And like the sugar in our tea,
May we, Oh Lord, be stirred by Thee...
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. Get outside and enjoy these glorious days!
