Bondi Resort Blog

Come on into our Blog for a look at the wonderful world we've got to share! With over 240 hectares (600 acres) of wilderness woodlands surrounding the resort, just ten minutes from Algonquin Park, we feature over 400 metres (1200’) of waterfront and beach; boat rentals; summer hiking trails winding through fields and woods; 20 km. of groomed cross country ski trails and snowshoeing in winter; access to nearby snowmobile trails for sledders, and a toboggan hill for the young at heart.

Family Matters, and the Importance of a Symbolic Fireplace

One of our long time and beloved Bondi Family members posted this over on her FB page -- about the importance of families getting together and affirming their collective lives.

The author of the article describes what is happening to so many families now -- " Free-range chickens rather than battery hens: we all go our own sweet way." Families are spread around the globe, and Skype is really not enough.

"And even if we were a scattered brood, we needed a symbolic fireplace to gather round" was what was needed.  A place " to catch up with my extended family. To remember my roots and to celebrate them."

At Bondi Village Resort, we are deeply honoured that we are the symbolic fireplace for a great many families who gather with us regularly to celebrate all that makes Family strong.

Some have been coming for 55 summers -- they have grown, and scattered, and climbed to great heights, and they all come together for that critical summer week.  Whether they have been coming for 20, 30, 40 or more than 50 years, or if they are starting new family traditions, we are touched that they have chosen us, here, on the Lake of Bays.

This site was once identified by First Nations as a 'place of healing' -- with the big sand beach, deposits of clay, and a south-west facing shoreline in a very protected bay, we were traditionally one of the first places to 'open up' in Spring, and provide a place to soak up some of the sun's welcome warmth after a long winter.  We treasure that, and work to keep this beautiful and peaceful site a place of healing for all our guests.   Spending some time in Nature is good for the body. Spending some time in Nature with your family gathered around is good for the soul.

So thank you to all our guests who have become family over the years -- we look forward to your arrival every year more than you know. You are part of us.
