Carol doesn't get to just sit quietly much during the summer -- there's always something to be done here! But when she does take that moment, she has a special little friend who comes to visit.
Chip comes from all the way past the end of the LODGE, zipping along through Carol's fenced gardens, ducking under the leaves of the big hosta, and arriving hopefully at her slippers.
She buys Chip special treats. Never mind blase commonplace peanuts, both Carol and her Chip are conniseurs. She reports that he can stuff 40 Pine Nuts into his cheeks. Or 55 shelled raw Sunflower seeds (no Salt!! Chip only eats nutritious foods!)
