Nesting Time
David and Megan woke up yesterday morning to find they had a visitor. We love snapping turtles. This one had decided that the foot of their stairs would be a good, safe place to set her eggs.
We agree -- the kids will be careful to ensure that nest is protected from predators like raccoons.
This is TURTLE SEASON, and you will see them along the roads as they come out looking for sandy places to put their eggs. They are now an endangered species. Why? Because they get killed so often on the roads, so everyone,
Life does not be lived so fast for you that it means Death for other species. Slow down. GIVE TURTLES A BRAKE
A second turtle had obviously heard the word about Dave and Megan -- she showed up last evening to make her own nest.
Dave has them staked down with mesh covers to keep critters away. It takes 80 to 90 days for the little ones to hatch, and their sex will be determined by the temperature in the nest.
Prehistoric, yes, and looking like something straight out of Jurassic Park, but totally cool for all that!

They certainly do look prehistoric, and they're fast!
