Baysville, Making the Most of Winterfest

Rachael Dobson and Alex Sheldrick not only entertained with
a great figure skating demonstration, but they were totally
gracious about taking time with the kids to autograph photos
Congratulations to Baysville on their 2nd annual Winterfest, held on the Sunday and Monday of the Family Day weekend.

With the arena and Seniors Centre, there were lots of opportunities for indoor action -- which was good given that it was a pretty chilly day...

Sunday focused on the ice rink, with a  fabulous Skating Demonstration from Rachael Dobson and Alex Sheldrick, Canadian Junior Figure Skating Champions.

There was a chance both days to join these great young skaters for Family Skate time, too!

Sunday also included a ton of fun for the kids:  making a snow globe, creating a sock snow person, making a Muskoka moose, decorating snowflakes...

Junkyard Johnny and The Magical Duda had the little ones' absolute enchanted throughout their shows.

And outside, there was decorating the snow forts, human curling (good sports, Rachael and Alex came out for that as well!)

And of course, just sliding down snowbanks... which is always popular.

Indoors at the Seniors' Centre, the Chili Contest featured ELEVEN great local businesses and restaurants vying for the coveted tiara.

Congratulations to this year's Crowd Favourite,Michelle from Humble Pie.  But let me tell you, having tasted all of them... it was a near run thing.  There's a lot of cooking talent in Baysville!

There's no charge for this -- it is paid for by the very generous community in Baysville, and they do just a splendid job of it.

So if you missed it this time round, mark it into your calendar for Next Winter.

This weekend will be Dorset's turn for the Winter Carnival -- there are so many great reasons to be up here in North Muskoka!

Alex tries something other than figure skating pairs with his skate partner Rachael, Human Curling

Last year's winner of the chili contest, looking fly in his tiara :)

you could turn anything into a chili dog, with a little help from these folks, cooking up hot dogs!

Michelle, from Humble Pie, took the crown this year.  Next year?  Who knows! Come out and see!

  1. Terrific shots! A good idea for Baysville to get in on what Dwight and Dorset have been doing.
