Double Barreled Cucumbers!
One of the fun things about Organic gardens is that the food does not all look like it came from some factory cookie cutter. We get oddly shaped carrots. Uneven beets.
Curvy potatoes. Even some eggs that are, well, less than egg-shaped.
And sometimes, you get something really funky. Today Carol found a double barreled cucumber. Two, growing together.
Carol spends as much time as she can in the gardens. They truly are HER gardens, and they are a labour of love. The organic vegetable garden at BONDI is an acre in size!
It is a great experience for the resort kids to help out in the garden and find out where their food really comes from. They help us gather eggs, dig potatoes, pull carrots, pick corn and beans and peas... and some of them help with the weeding!
Food always tastes better fresh. My father used to insist that before the corn was picked, the water should be already on the boil. To this day, I find the corn sold in supermarkets to be a tasteless imitation of what puts the sweet into sweet corn!
Our guests tell us the same thing, they've never tasted corn like ours. That's because it just can't get fresher than this!
