Bondi Resort Blog

Come on into our Blog for a look at the wonderful world we've got to share! With over 240 hectares (600 acres) of wilderness woodlands surrounding the resort, just ten minutes from Algonquin Park, we feature over 400 metres (1200’) of waterfront and beach; boat rentals; summer hiking trails winding through fields and woods; 20 km. of groomed cross country ski trails and snowshoeing in winter; access to nearby snowmobile trails for sledders, and a toboggan hill for the young at heart.

Cutest Ever

While we were fluffing up the flock following the fox's foraging (how's that for alliteration?) we became the proud owners of the world's cutest chicken... One of our OPP guests, here for the G8, named her KIVA, which means grace and beauty, and doesn't completely capture the essence of chicken-attitude encased in this fluffy little body.

She is a Japanese Silky, and while she does lay eggs (not very big ones, not very frequently at present) she is living proof that you can get a LONG way on just being cute and fluffy and weighing in at about 2 pounds.
With her distinctive blue beak, bluish legs and feathery feet she looks like something that wandered away from the Hobbit Shire in Lord of the Rings.
Her feathers aren't really feathery -- more like silky down. Which could explain why she dislikes the rain more than your average wet hen. And the design of the long feathers on the toes causes her to hop through the grass, rather like someone trying not to trip over their snowshoes. We remain unconvinced that feathers on chicken feet is a wise evolutionary plan. We've seen what chickens run through, on a daily basis.
Still, she is an adorable addition to the farm part of Bondi, and she gets along just fine with the rest of the flock. We're looking forward to introducing her to our summer guests!

  2. There is nothing I would like more, than to meet a Japanese Silky. The name sounds as though it could be a skein of exotic yarn. Keep that filthy, ferocious fiend of a fox away from her.
