Bondi Resort Blog

Come on into our Blog for a look at the wonderful world we've got to share! With over 240 hectares (600 acres) of wilderness woodlands surrounding the resort, just ten minutes from Algonquin Park, we feature over 400 metres (1200’) of waterfront and beach; boat rentals; summer hiking trails winding through fields and woods; 20 km. of groomed cross country ski trails and snowshoeing in winter; access to nearby snowmobile trails for sledders, and a toboggan hill for the young at heart.

Whoooo's that?

All summer and fall we've been hearing Barred Owls hooting on the hills around Bondi Village.

With their lovely barred feathers, big brown eyes, and easy to recognize hoot, these are among our most popular owls.

Whenever we go out with guests to look at Stars, we Give a Hoot. Often the owls oblige by hooting back.  You can easily tell the barred owl from the call:  I cook for myself, Who Cooks For You?????

While we often hear them, we don't that often get to see them.  Mike sent us these pictures, snapped with his phone -- you can just see the arena and fenceline through the trees beyond that great wind-blown tangle of roots.  And just above those same roots, there he is...

Wondering Whooooo's That????

Here's an interesting fact about barred owls... their ears are slightly off-set, with one higher than the other. This makes it easy for them to pin-point the source of sounds, such as mice scurrying in leaves.

Whooooooooooo knew?
