Come on into our Blog for a look at the wonderful world we've got to share! With over 240 hectares (600 acres) of wilderness woodlands surrounding the resort, just ten minutes from Algonquin Park, we feature over 400 metres (1200’) of waterfront and beach; boat rentals; summer hiking trails winding through fields and woods; 20 km. of groomed cross country ski trails and snowshoeing in winter; access to nearby snowmobile trails for sledders, and a toboggan hill for the young at heart.

Something Fishy

A friend of ours told me he welcomed the opening day of trout season by sitting on a public dock near the Bigwin Golf Course Parking lot, casting into the open water.

That's not quite what our ice fishing die-hards had in mind.  This photo, taken today at Dwight Beach, will bring some cheer to those fishy aficionados.

Here's a cautionary note, however -- the main lake is still open. Never trust ice, always check carefully. If you don't know, don't go...  There really is no such thing as "safe ice", which doesn't mean you can't get out there, if you are savvy and sensible.

We'd all get along much better if we remembered at all times to give Mother Nature the respect she deserves...

  1. I don't ice fish (or fish in general), so I never go out on the lakes in the winter.

I do know that dock well. Just looking at that pic reminds me of a time in the dead of winter, walking out onto it on a cold, snowy, windy day, feeling the howl of the wind off the lake. Lovely. Lovely!
