Brian accepting the Stewardship award from Blair
McMurchy at Port Carling |
Brian was at the Muskoka Steamship and Historical Society meeting on Sunday, to accept an award on behalf of Bondi Village. The Stewardship awards began in 2008 to acknowledge individuals who have demonstrated exemplary stewardship in respect to the Society's Mission -- "to preserve the traditions of the steamship era in Muskoka."

Duke's, legendary boatworks in Port Carling |
We were selected,
on behalf of three generations of the Tapley family, for the long term care and operation of Bondi Village Resort since 1905. While Bondi has grown in size and amenities, it has maintained the look and feel of the traditional family operated resort, and today is one of only a few that fall into that category.

Miss Canada IV |
We are honoured to accept this. It is part of our Mission to provide a genuine Muskoka cottage experience to our guests, and to preserve the look and feel of the Muskoka wilderness. It's nice to be recognized for that.

A bigger engine than the BBQ Barge |
The presentation co-incided nicely with the Antique and Classic Boat Show. Dave had some trouble picking out the boat of his dreams -- there were too many to pick from. Some small and elegant. Some huge and impressive as all get out. Some very fast. Some not so speedy, with more time to enjoy the view.
Some had huge engines. Others were quiet, electric powered, chuffing along almost silently.

Some, we suspect rarely see the water -- too much time is spent just polishing the decks! But while David was pondering the collection of boats, debating the pros and cons and prices, Brian cut directly to the chase.
He went for this sleek black beauty... which he tells us is the 'boat of his dreams'. It's a classic.

Thank you for the honour and the award.
Kudos to Bondi for the award (say, is that a double positive?). As for the request to "add caption" . . . how about: The exhaust outlets on this boat point forward; the faster the engine goes, the slower the boat goes, meaning daddy doesn't have to worry about junior going for jaunty joy rides. (Yes, I know they are cooling ports for the engine bay.)
