Merlin

Let's make the obvious comment -- this is a Merlin falcon, so isn't it just Wizard that he showed up on our property today?

There will be better photos coming -- Quinn was out with his good camera.  Mark got really close while the bird was just sitting on the lawn, considering his options.  Eustace got some shots while the little falcon perched on (of all places) the picnic table at their cottage.   So my offering is just to whet the appetite.  I can't wait to get their photos to add to this!

Also known as Pigeon Hawks, these fast fliers are similar in size to the Peregrine falcon, but a little less colourful.  They are not that rare, but it is pretty darn rare to actually get to see one!  This fellow drew quite a crowd.
