No Bigger than a Fern
No bigger than a fern, this little one was grazing with his Mom in the horse pasture.
Very hard to spot -- despite (or because of) the spots, and the size. The hoof prints are delicate, about the size of a thumb-nail.
The ears will break your heart, they are so fragile, translucent, the delicate veins showing clearly.
Mom watched me with an assessing gaze, determining whether I was a threat to her precious little one or not.
We watched each other for a few moments -- long enough to get the camera out and snap a few pictures.
Then Mom decided that the forest would offer better cover than the open field. She gave a tiny call, and started to walk away.
Little One followed obediently. They are so well camouflaged with their spotted coats they vanish almost as you watch, and are very easy to just "not see" -- so when you do spot one of the does, hold on -- look around very carefully. There might just be a tiny set of ears lurking in the bracken.

Sometimes it's nothing more than a passing glance of a deer before they're gone. Lovely shots!
