Matt Weidinger successfully completed his mission to put himself and the Lake of Bays into the Guinness Book of Records.
Starting from the public access point to Lake of Bays at Norway Point Park, on old Hwy 117 between Dorset and Baysville, Matt ran a track around Bigwin Island
Matt was welcomed back to land at the end of his run by dignitaries including Acting Mayor Ben Boivin, who got to sign off the official documents for Guinness (if you wondered what mayor's do...) and supported by a large entourage who made sure he and his sled stayed fueled and who kept count for him, as he went around Bigwin Island. And around. And around. For 24 hours.
How far? Well the last record was 2262 km. set 9 years ago, and Matt demolished that, racking up 2906 km. in 24 hours on his very fast (but quite quiet) Yamaha sled.
Brian and Dave zipped over to check it out, but they couldn't begin to keep up, so just gave a friendly wave, and wished him well.
David T., whose cottage lies along the route on the Port Cunnington shore, watched the record-setting festivities from the cottage, and shared a photo with us, taken early in the 24 hour term.
Congrats Matt! Quite an accomplishment... but I bet you're pretty much done with sitting down for a while...
