This weekend is the Masters National Pond Hockey Championships at Deerhurst.
15 rinks on Sunset Bay. Crews that have been working round the clock to produce perfect ice. More than 1700 competitors spread over the two weekends of play... and this weekend, at the Masters, Walter Gretzky is the Honorary Coach.
Walter, credited with developing his son into The Great One, has always been an advocate for the outdoor rink and less structured hockey practice in the backyard.
Along with the tournament, the organizers are hosting the Take Your Best Shot photo contest, to celebrate the Canadian outdoor hockey experience.
The Masters is on both Saturday and Sunday. Spectators are welcome, and there's no charge.
Drop by. Cheer the players. Cheer Walter. And give a cheer to Deerhurst for providing the rinks and hosting the whole thing. Hooray!
