Biking Minnesing

Algonquin Park features two fantastic mountain bike trails -- the Old Rail Trail, following the railway bed, is a great 'family' trail. That's biker-speak for 'pretty easy, not much in the way of hills.' That's true -- one of our guests, Syl, likes to tackle it in his motorized wheelchair, getting up close and personal with wildlife on the way.

The other trail, Minnesing, is another breed of cat entirely. Brad, Quinn, Mark and Brandi tackled it last week.

They came back exhilarated. Not to mention scratched and bruised (especially Brandi, who had some awesome souvenirs to display!)

As they were packing up in the parking lot, some other bikers arrived. The lady in that group looked at the four of them, then turned to her friends and said, "I want to look like THAT when we're done!"

Minnesing consists of a series of loops, so you can tackle different distances. Brad reports they biked the second loop, around 11 km.

It did involve lots of walking your bike over loose and large rock formations.

Brad reports: "We had extremely normal bikes…two had small shocks on the front, the other two had none. If you want an easy ride, I would suggest the old railway bed. If you want to feel like you conquered something…definitely the Minnesing Trail."

We make it easy to get there -- every reservation at Bondi Village includes a pass into Algonquin Park. The bruises, the sense of accomplishment, well, that you have to do for yourself...

  1. And it's a beautiful trail. We loved it. A little bumpy in some parts, but nothing a good heavy-duty power chair can't handle.
