Firefest - Best Show in Town. Or out of it.
The August long weekend is the date for the annual Dwight Volunteer Firefighters' biggest fundraiser -- FIREFEST.
The Northern Lights Steel Band sets up on the street, along with Marie and Dave selling 50/50 tickets, and the Lion's Club selling raffle tickets on cool stuff like this bbq and a generator...
There's a bbq, and candy floss, and lots of glow sticks for the kids of all ages. The Police Boat is on display, as is the new Lake of Bays Fireboat, blue lights flashing.
Rural communities such as ours rely on our fabulous Volunteer Firefighters. These are the men and women who drop everything when the pagers go off, responding to medical emergencies, vehicle accidents, fires -- if it needs someone to help, these are the folks who are going to show up, and by golly, we are truly grateful.
Supporting their cause is a pleasure. And the pleasure is returned at FIREFEST, with one of the best displays of fireworks. Fired from a barge in the middle of Dwight Bay, good site lines are assured for all -- including some of our contingent, who watch from one of our lookout points on Bondi property, across the bay from the Dwight Beach.
