Thanks to Alice, who was here with the Wilderness Adventurers of Ontario club the other week, for sending along her pictures of the bald eagle.
I love them -- they aren't close up, but they certainly prove that the eagles were here: circling up over the Bondi Lookout.
This is where we first saw them -- standing at the stable, chatting up the horses. That's when I saw this eagle, over Alice's shoulder, soaring over the mountain. At first I thought it was a HUGE raven...
It was when it turned, against the dark of the trees that we could see the white on the head and tail, and knew for sure who was visiting.
As a thin speck against a big sky -- that was how I thought the rest of the Club would see these birds because it took me time to get to the Lodge and let them know we had company.
These are such big, powerful birds. They have a powerful presence. You can feel the energy from them as they float, seemingly without effort, on the up-drafts.
It was a rare privilege to see them. Thank you very much, to Alice, and Kathy and Don, who sent along these photographs.
And thanks, eagles, for honouring us with the shadow of your wings.
