Bondi Resort Blog

Come on into our Blog for a look at the wonderful world we've got to share! With over 240 hectares (600 acres) of wilderness woodlands surrounding the resort, just ten minutes from Algonquin Park, we feature over 400 metres (1200’) of waterfront and beach; boat rentals; summer hiking trails winding through fields and woods; 20 km. of groomed cross country ski trails and snowshoeing in winter; access to nearby snowmobile trails for sledders, and a toboggan hill for the young at heart.

Home Again...

For oh so many summers Cathy Steele's family owned two of the famous Juliana cottages on Bigwin Island -- so named because during WWII Queen Juliana of the Netherlands spent her summers there.
For oh so many winters, her family would come and stay with us at Bondi.  When they arrived for the summer, we would be their base, and my dad Paul looked after their cottages.

So it was a treat this summer to have the family back here at Bondi. Nancy and Cathy caught up by zooming around on the golf cart (with Taffy of course, who considers it to be HER golf cart)

It was a lovely week, reconnecting with old friends!  That's what happens here!

  1. I don't think I've heard Juliana spent time there during the war. I know she was here in Ottawa much of the time.

  2. Queen Juliana and her entourage had four cottages at Bigwin Inn, collectively they are known as the Juliana cottages, and are still there. The Constitution of the Netherlands travelled with the Queen, and was kept in the safe at Bigwin. There is a very strong connection between Holland and Canada, but also between Holland and the Lake of Bays.
